Tour Overview

This short but unforgettable 3 Day Tanzania Safari & Mount Kilimanjaro journey brings together two of Tanzania’s greatest experiences. Wild, open savannah teeming with animals, and the quiet, forested lower slopes of Africa’s tallest mountain. Truly, few adventures can compare to the excitement and variety found on a Tanzania Safari & Mount Kilimanjaro trip.

In just three days, you’ll watch elephants move across golden grassland in Tarangire, look down into the natural wonder of the Ngorongoro Crater, and walk the lower trails of Mount Kilimanjaro. All without needing to commit to a full multi-day trek. As a result, this Tanzania Safari & Mount Kilimanjaro experience blends adventure and comfort in every detail

It’s a perfect fit for travelers who want a genuine taste of both safari and mountain adventure, but have limited time to spend. For real diversity, nothing beats combining a Tanzania safari with Mount Kilimanjaro in a single trip. Each night, you’ll rest in a comfortable, well-located base, so the days stay full without wearing you out. In the end, a Tanzania Safari & Mount Kilimanjaro adventure delivers memories that last a lifetime.

Day 1

Arusha - Tarangire

elephants in Tarangire National Park family safari

Your adventure begins in the morning as you leave Arusha and head toward Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most underrated safari destinations. The drive itself is part of the experience β€” watch as the scenery shifts from town streets to open countryside dotted with small farms and villages.

Once inside Tarangire, you’ll spend the day on a game drive through a landscape defined by giant baobab trees, some standing for hundreds of years. Tarangire is famous for its elephants, and it’s common to see large family herds moving together, from tiny calves to massive matriarchs. Keep an eye out too for giraffes stretching for treetop leaves, herds of buffalo, and predators like lions resting in the shade during the heat of the day. The Tarangire River, which the park is named after, draws wildlife from all directions, especially in the drier months.

By late afternoon, you’ll leave the park and drive to Karatu, a relaxed town that serves as the gateway to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You’ll spend the night here, giving you a comfortable, central base for the crater visit ahead.

Ngorongoro crater

wildlife in Ngorongoro Crater easy safari

After breakfast, you’ll drive up into the highlands toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As the road climbs, the views open up dramatically, and you’ll get your first glimpse of the crater from the rim before descending onto its floor.

Ngorongoro Crater is often described as a natural sanctuary, formed long ago when an ancient volcano collapsed in on itself. What’s left is a wide, grassy basin, walled in on all sides, where an incredible density of wildlife lives year-round.

During your game drive across the crater floor, you’re likely to see zebras and wildebeest grazing in mixed herds, hippos wallowing in muddy pools, flamingos wading in the shallow lake, and with some good fortune, one of the crater’s resident black rhinos one of the few reliable places in Tanzania to spot them.

In the early afternoon, you’ll climb back up out of the crater and begin the drive back toward Arusha, where you’ll spend the night. This puts you in a convenient position for an early start the next morning toward Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro Day Hike

Day 3

Kilimanjaro Day Hike

Mount Kilimanjaro Climb

Your final day takes you to the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and one of the most iconic peaks in the world. Rather than attempting a multi-day summit climb, this day hike lets you experience the mountain’s lower reaches at a relaxed, manageable pace.

The trail winds through lush montane forest, alive with birdsong and, at the right time of year, the calls of colobus monkeys overhead.

As you walk, your guide will point out plants and trees unique to Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes, and you’ll get a genuine sense of the mountain’s scale as it rises above the tree line. It’s a rewarding hike that requires no technical climbing experience or advance training, making it accessible to most travelers who enjoy a moderate walk.

By late afternoon, you’ll make your way back down, bringing your three-day journey to a close with the mountain still visible behind you β€” a fitting final image of a trip that captured both Tanzania’s wildlife and its wild landscapes.
